REGISTRATION OF CELLULAR PHONES AND HANDHELD COMPUTERS

On 14 August 2012, the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia issued Ministerial Regulation Number 81/M-IND/PER/8/2012 on The Registration of Cellular Phones and Handheld Computers ("Regulation 81/2012"). Under Article 2 of Regulation 81/2012, all cellular phones and handheld computers which are produced, imported, and used in Indonesia must be registered with the Director General of Primary Industry using High Technology and also satisfy the Technical Requirements under the prevailing laws and regulations. Registration is to be conducted by the producer or importer of the cellular phones. Please note that prior to the promulgation of Regulation 81/2012, the registration of cellular phones and handheld computers was not mandatory under any legislation.
