Makarim & Taira S. at IMCC 2025: Legal Liabilities and Obligations in Mine Closure

Makarim & Taira S. participated in the Indonesia Mine Closure Conference (IMCC) 2025, held on 18–19 November 2025 in The Energy Building, SCBD, Jakarta.

Our Senior Foreign Counsel, Hilton King, and Senior Associate, Anastasia Anggita, were invited to speak in the session on “Mine Closure – Legal Liabilities and Obligations.” They discussed key legal considerations surrounding mine closure in Indonesia, including the liability and obligations of mining companies throughout the closure and post-closure phases, the evolving regulatory landscape and the importance of early planning to ensure compliance and long-term accountability.

Their insights contributed to broader industry discussions on strengthening governance, responsible transition planning, and ensuring sustainable outcomes for mining operations entering the closure stage.

Our appreciation goes the organizers and all the participants for fostering an important discussion on Indonesia’s mine closure framework.
